International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA) is delighted to announce the launch of the first GHG Calculator for Latin America.
Built in collaboration with the leading Argentinean and Chilean wineries Domaine Bousquet, Grupo Peñaflor, Miguel Torres Chile and VSPT, this is a major step forward in helping wineries in the major South American wine producing nations in calculating GHG emissions.
A part of their mission to combat climate change, International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA), an international collaborative association of leading wineries committed to reducing carbon emissions, has launched a new Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions calculator for wineries in Latin America.
IWCA Executive Director, Charlotte Hey, said, “IWCA’s calculator has established itself as the benchmark for transparency and rigor in the wine business at an international level. Working with these leading wineries in Argentina and Chile, to create the new GHG calculator for our joint mission to reduce carbon emissions in a very important part of the wine producing world.”
This tool is free and allows wineries, both members and non-members of IWCA, to measure their carbon footprint across Scopes 1, 2 and 3, including direct emissions, indirect emissions due to energy consumption and other emissions throughout the company’s value chain. It offers the possibility of comparing the results with those of other wineries in the region, promoting more transparent and competitive management in terms of sustainability.
The development of the calculator took place in 2024 and launch in January 2025 on the IWCA website. With this launch, IWCA expands its global reach, adding this new tool to those already in place for wineries in the United States, Australia and New Zealand. Each calculator is adjusted to the GHG World Resources Institute (WRI) protocols and the ISO-14064 standard.
This more direct and structured approach improves effective flow of information and establishes a clear causal sequence between actions and results.
With this initiative, IWCA reinforces its commitment to promoting its cause to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the wine sector, promoting climate action through the reduction and measurement of emissions.
