We are thrilled to share that Champagne Lanson (France) and St. Supéry Estate Vineyards & Winery (United States) have become IWCA Silver Members!

They achieved this milestone having completed their first baseline, third-party verified GHG inventory (across Scopes 1, 2, and 3) and set a roadmap to work toward Net Zero by 2050. As part of IWCA's collective of wineries across the globe, they are at the forefront of driving progress in the wine industry to reduce carbon emissions.

IWCA is now 27 Silver Members and 9 Gold Members strong, in addition to our 10 Applicant wineries! Join us in congratulating Champagne Lanson and St. Supéry and learn more about them below.

Founded in 1760, Lanson is one of the oldest Champagne Houses, still owned by a Champagne family group. The unique style of its Champagnes rests on 4 immutable pillars: a meticulous selection of Crus; a vinification according to the traditional Champagne principle; a rare collection of reserve wines, and a longer ageing in cellars.

As a major player in Champagne region, respect for the terroir is a primary concern. In addition to owning a sixteen-hectare vineyard that is farmed biodynamically, Maison Lanson is committed to sustainable viticulture both for its own vineyard and for its supplies by supporting its partner growers in their transition towards certified viticulture through the founding of the first collective structure by a Champagne House, in 2018.

Shares François Van Aal, President of Champagne Lanson:

“We are very pleased to have achieved Silver Membership of International Wineries for Climate Action and we were proud to have been the first Champagne House to join IWCA and to actively contribute to reduce carbon emissions across the wine industry. We are convinced of the need to act against climate change to preserve the richness of our terroirs, our vineyards, and our wines. This achievement falls within the framework of our actions in favour of sustainable development.”

St. Supéry operates as stewards of the land with preservation as top priority. In every effort, whether a capital project or minor task, future impact is thoroughly considered. As a 100% estate-grown, sustainably farmed winery in Napa Valley, St. Supéry has 1,595+ acres of land with two-thirds left in its natural state, encouraging biodiversity. Carbon studies indicate both vineyard properties sequester +1400 metric tons/year. Solar arrays offset 91% of the winery’s energy bill, winery water usage has reduced by 50% in the last 5 years, and all process water is recycled. St. Supéry irrigates with captured rainfall and recycled water.

Expressing their pride in achieving IWCA Silver Membership, St Supéry’s CEO, Emma Swain, shared:

“Our focus at St. Supéry is on continuous improvement and how to not only sustain our current efforts but reach further to significantly improve each year. We are elated to have achieved IWCA Silver status following our most recent GHG inventory. Through this membership, we are committed to a healthy and sustainable future for all. IWCA is leading the way in addressing climate change and we encourage our fellow vintners to join us in our commitment to future generations.”
